Big gravel ride

  • Beeslack High School Edinburgh Road Penicuik, Scotland, EH26 0QF United Kingdom (map)

ROUTE UPDATED TO AVOID ROADS IN CASE OF ICE (FORECAST HAS IMPROVED SO RISK SHOULD BE MINIMAL)

Where to: Out to the far Pentlands, some slightly boggy sections, heading back via Glassfield Forest and then we’ll fly back along the moor road.

How far: 74km, 1100m

What pace: Faster than our night rides, with less stops but we’ll regroup at the top and bottom of climbs/descents. Not suitable for beginners.

Any stops: Yes! We’ll pop into the Whitmuir Farm Cafe for some food and a coffee.

Meet location: Beeslack High School

You might be wishing for a Mountain Bike on a few short sections (descent off Cap Law and possibly the way out of Blyth) but everything is rideable on a gravel bike. Overall, the best suited bike will be a drop bar bike with 40+mm tyres but any off-road bike will be grand.
